Jon got up and followed Mister Khan. Mister Khan was an older man, and he wore a nice suit. He had grey hair, and generally clean clothes. If he had to deal with him, he probably needed some corporate bullshit. So, at that moment, he decided to level up his Corporate Bullshit to level 2.
[Corporate Bullshit is improved. Your personal website and personal card have been created!]
“What the fuck.” Jon cursed as he looked at his personal card. There was a dozen of them, but he felt the system call out to one card in particular.
Website Designer, Restructuring Expert, and Industrial Espionage
Uh. He kind of understood website designing, since, he actually knew how to do it, but Restructuring Expert sounded kind of daunting. That last part though, that was outright scary. The system wanted him to do Industrial Espionage?
But he followed him anyway. At that point, he stopped at another coffee shop, and heard him curse to himself.
“I kept talking and forgot to get a coffee.” At that point, Jon decided it was probably the time to strike. His confidence, empowered by the System, queued up and got a coffee. Mister Khan, who was busy fiddling with his phone replying some messages, was behind him.
“I’d like a latte, please.” Jon said and paid with a card. It costs $8.
Mister Khan, then got up and said to the counter. “I’d like a latte, too.”
The barista nodded and got to work. The two of them waited outside of the coffee counter and Jon decided it was time to initiate conversation. “Hi. Hot day, isn’t it?”
Mister Khan was a little surprised but nodded. He didn’t seem entirely unfriendly. “Yeah. It is.”
Jon somehow noticed the documents he held was all about restructuring. He activated his Corporate bullshit. “Interesting documents you have there. Restructuring is such a wide field of work. What sort of Company are you rescuing?”
Mister Khan laughed as he looked at his documents. “Ah- just some industrial products company.”
“Oh. That’s interesting. I used to do some restructuring work for industrial products. I was involved in revamping the Palas family’s Golden Grain factory’s workflow, and also streamlining its production business processes. They had such a huge number of vendors that were underperforming.” Jon didn’t realize how his own past work experience was somehow transformed into that sort of pitch, but clearly, this ability could turn the most mundane of tasks into a super complicated ConnectIn profile.
“Ah. I heard about that. Some of my clients was got cut out from that deal.” Mister Khan shrugged, and Jon, deftly handed over his card.
“I’m Jon, by the way. I’m kind of between jobs right now, so I’m just taking up odd work, but that’s my card.”
“Huh.” Mister Khan actually held the card in his hands and read it. “Industrial Espionage. That’s not something you see on cards often.”
Jon flashed the most disarming smile ever. “It’s a niche. Things we do for money. I’m currently a janitor, and I look the part. No one suspects the harmless, uneducated janitor for anything.”
Mister Khan laughed heartily. Their coffee was ready. “So- where are you working at now? Between jobs, I mean.”
“I’m a janitor at Poolman Limited, waiting for my next big gig. I build up a resume of janitorial roles to help me sell my credentials as a cleaning expert.”
Mister Khan froze and then laughed. “If this isn’t a lucky coincidence. Tell you what. Can you get your hands on the real financial numbers of Poolman Limited? I’ll pay you $10,000 for it.”
Jon grinned. “How soon do you want it?”
“Next week.” Mister Khan pulled out a card and passed it to him. Mister Edward Khan, Senior Vice President at Venture Capital Investor.
“Well. I’ll give you a call once I get it.”
