Chapter 28: Work work

The financial records were not entirely foreign to him. Somehow, his enhanced levels in Corporate Bullshit made it easier for him to understand the numbers. Poolman Limited was frankly in deep shit, and they were financially tied up.

What was unusual, were the advances to the Director, Henry Pool. Henry Pool had somehow paid himself a million dollars per year, over the last three years despite their poor performance, and on top of that, transferred an additional two million dollars to himself.

That was absolutely crazy, and Jon realized if he revealed this to Mister Khan, he better had more leverage. He needed to get back to office and get more documents on these transfers. He roughly knew where the accountant kept the records, but he wondered whether he could get more information on what was presented to Mister Khan.

It would be easier to pitch his value.

He also needed to be absolutely sure about Henry Pool’s wrongdoing, and wondered whether he could leverage on the information he had to blackmail mister Pool, while working with Mister Khan.

After all, his goal was to win over Miss Ella Moren. The Company is irrelevant.

 ***

Saturday.

As a janitor, it wasn’t hard to get the keys to the office, thanks to some corporate bullshit. It was something he made a copy of during one of the lunch breaks. But rather than infiltrate the office again, Lena had other ideas. “Let’s go shopping.”

“What- why?” Jon checked his wallet. He had about $350. The Company had not paid him yet, because it took a while for his banking and payment details to get through to the HR records. Lena slung her arms around his neck.

“You need clothes. Something nicer to wear. And you also need some tools to do things for Miss Ella. Please?”

Jon gulped. If a beautiful housewife asked him in that manner, he found it really hard to say no. He nodded. “Very well.”

“There’s a place I like to go. Things are really expensive there, but there’s actually a secret corner where there’s cheap stuff. It’s all the returned stuff that all these elites didn’t want anymore, or didn’t fit so their servants returned them.”

“Oooh.” Jon nodded and they went to a place called Brightstone Shopping Pavilions. It was a large, really high-class and upmarket place with multiple expensive eateries, and filled with luxury brands. Handbags were at least $5,000, and even a simple meal here would cost $100.

“We don’t have to eat here.” Lena said. “I know you don’t have money.”

They skipped most of the luxury brands, and Jon was dressed in office wear just so that he didn’t look out of place. Lena, however, just wore a simple T shirt and jeans, and somehow looked like she belonged. Everything she wore looked great.

Then, just as they walked past, Jon saw Kevin Palas walking by, along with that same girl that he saw before. Briefly, they exchanged glances, and Kevin’s face turned ugly as he glared.

Jon pretended not to acknowledge him, and just kept walking.

“You don’t belong here, trash.” Kevin said as he walked past. Jon and Lena ignored him, and just continued to walk to the higher floors. Hidden on the upper floors where there’s not much traffic was a returns and thrift store.

Lena looked excited, as they walked in. “Alright! We’re here.”

Jon looked around and felt relieved that the prices here were a fraction of what was listed in the more expensive stores below. Here, every item was about $20-$50, going up to $100 for more elaborate pieces. But they all looked in perfectly good shape.

“These are all returns.” Lena smiled. “Let’s get you something nice to wear.”

Jon left that thrift store with two new work outfits, and a nice casual wear that better fit his chubby body. He couldn’t help but notice everyone else in the store staring, though, because the way Lena helped Jon choose clothes was very much like an attentive housewife. He heard some of them wonder whether he’s rich, that’s why a beauty like Lena would stick with him.

After some shopping, the pair went for a jog, and for a few hours of badminton.

Jon didn’t know why, but it felt like he was a married man, spending all that time with his new wife.

He got a message, once they returned home.

I’ve sent the divorce documents over the Lena. Please let her know. Well done, she said she found another man already, and sent me a photo.

Jon almost spat out his coffee as he saw a photo of Lena riding his dragon. Lena looked like she was in a trance, her face one of pure bliss.

Fantastic job, by the way. I always suspected her sex drive was over the roof, but I didn’t enjoy sex all that much, you know. Keep in touch.

“System, this is insane.” Why did Lena even send such a photo to her soon-to-be-ex-husband was beyond him.

[The easy targets are all insane, master.]

“Fuck, does that mean Ella is nuts too?”

“Shit.”

Jon once heard some advice, telling him not to stick his dick in crazy. He looked at Lena, and wondered whether he’s fucked.

[No time for regrets, master.]
