Chapter 120: Treachery (1)

Chapter 120

Why in the hell would people be so stupid?

I couldn’t help but laugh. Redford tried to one-up me, which was fine, since it was a political move, but why in the world would he take such a risk against a person who held the remedy for an illness that could take his life?

That was beyond me, seriously.

Had to admit he was a clever bastard, though. A slow death, which was perfect and wouldn’t leave much behind. No evidence, no nothing.

Such a big amount would be difficult to spend in this small town, and he knew that. I would keep this gold near me for at the very least a few weeks, which was enough time for me to slowly wither and die.

Alas, he didn’t know I had a universal system that could flag these threats. With the curse caught, all I could do was shake my head in vain and think of how to kill Redford since he had bared his fangs at me, and after much deliberation as I walked back, one perfect plan formed in my mind.

“Say it again,” Zara asked, her tone cold and dead.

“He wanted me to keep an eye on you. He said he was going to fabricate some evidence against you, since he found none after many days of scouring the forest. He is going to present that to the king, take away your lands, have you hanged, and cause Lord Carlson to lower his influence. He also promised to make me the lord of this town after you were removed, by telling the king I was the one who procured the evidence in his name.” I explained the whole conversation in detail, which never happened, but was malicious enough that no party could verify its authenticity.

“And you chose me?” Zara asked, her tone still cold.

“I would rather stick with the person who helped me up to this point, instead of a person who is talking about fabricating evidence,” I replied, making sure I didn’t put in grand gestures like loyalty and shit in my reply. Zara didn’t want to hear that anyway.

“I assume there is a reason besides your position in this house so close to me that he made you that offer,” Zara asked.

Sharp.

“Yes, Lady Zara,” I replied before explaining to her how I had figured out what Redford’s illness was and had managed to concoct a medicine. Zara was a little shocked to hear that, and then a little displeased, as proven by her expression. Probably because I withheld this information from her, but she didn’t say anything about it.

It was a minor factor after all, given the fact that the more pressing matter at the moment was dealing with Redford and his scheme.

“How quickly can you make his medicine?” Zara asked. Once again, I had to admit, she was very sharp.

“Though I told him it takes time, it takes a day at most,” I replied. It took about an hour, but no need to say that out loud.

“Then concoct it, but add a little surprise this time.” She said, a sharp smile on her face that displayed a little bit of her cruelty.

“Surprise?” I asked curiously, even though I knew what she was going to ask.

“Add poison. One that spreads through touch, but has to be slow so it wouldn’t work until after a while.” Zara said.

“But would that not be late?” I asked. I had a solution for that, too, but I wanted to hear Zara’s opinion, too.

“That is simple. We will make a grand gesture of going to the forest in search of my husband. We will make it look like we are worried, and leave under the sight of witnesses. We will make sure to take your family, and mine, of course, and a few of Redford’s attendants and knights, under the guise of help since our forces are insufficient.”

“A week will do. Redford dies while using an experimental drug due to his illness. That would be the story we would be informed of upon our return.”

Had to believe this woman was the very same one who was moaning and gasping under me last night, asking me to spank and choke her more and more while her son lay beneath us, seething in rage as we showered him with our excrements.

“That is a wonderful plan, Lady Zara,” I replied, making sure to sound a little flattering.

She nodded but didn’t say much about that. “Get to it quickly. Make sure the medicine is ready by tomorrow. Also, deliver it to him under the excuse that while the rest of it is being made, he should use that batch for the time being.”

She also solved the excuse of one week needed to concoct the medicine. I once again realized Zara’s worth.

And the danger that came along with it.

“Understood, Lady Zara.” Saying so, I was dismissed for the day and sent to an empty room, which was guarded by a few soldiers. Zara had someone sent the poison at night while I was meditating. I hadn’t even started making the medicine yet.

It was some untraceable poison that could be mixed in almost anything. Unfortunately, it wasn’t something I needed.

I put it away in my inventory and closed my eyes to rest again. There was still quite some time left before I was to go out, so I thought, why not rest before getting the task done?

Not going home or fucking someone was a bummer, but it needed to be done before I could thoroughly enjoy myself. Besides, two weeks of fucking around were soon coming up in the forest, so there was no need to be so disappointed.

At dawn, I purchased the item I was originally going to put in the lotion for Redford.

[Whisperbloom Nectar]

[Type: Poison]

[Tier: B]

[Description: The whisperbloom flower is a pale, moon-white flower that only blooms under three cycles of full moon, surrounded by poisonous energy (almost three months)

Its nectar is extracted drop by drop since the potent poison can be harmful in large quantities and difficult to treat]

[Effect: Slowly affects the victim over time]

[If no special circumstances are involved, the victim can lose their life in a span of seven days. Maximum time limit is fourteen days]

[Lowers the chances if the target is too strong]

[Cost: 100,000]

This was a perfect poison for what I wanted to do. It was untraceable, and had no smell, and no symptoms as well. The target wouldn’t even feel anything was wrong with them before they die. Like one day they would be healthy like a horse, and the next day…

Quack!

“Haha.” I chuckled at the silly impression I did myself.

I slept for a while after that, and once the sun was up, I made my way to Zara’s office to let her know. She wasn’t there yet, and a maid notified me she was having breakfast at the moment. While I wanted to head over there and eat her out as my breakfast, I contained myself as there was plenty of time to dick around.

She came once she was informed about me, after about fifteen minutes.

“Do you have it ready?” She asked.

“Yes.” I replied before I said, “Now the only problem that remains is how to deliver it.”

“Do not worry about that. Just visit him under the guise that you bring news about me, under the excuse that you also had that vial to give him.” Zara made up a story about bribing a few of Redford’s guards to keep an eye on him and sent me to him.

Arriving at Redford’s residence, I was allowed entry. Just like yesterday, he was having breakfast.

“I wasn’t expecting you so soon,” Redford commented.

“Some developments occurred which I thought you should be notified about, my lord.” I said, while placing the cream container on the table, “Also, this. I forgot I had this when I made it last time. This should last you some days.”

Redford looked pleased as he took the cream and examined it with a smile before he asked, “What are the developments?”

“Lady Zara is planning to bribe someone from your side to keep an eye on you. She asked me for suggestions, and I suggested your butler. She is currently digging into his life to find out his weak points.” I explained.

“Great minds think alike. Only I was one step ahead.” Redford said with a hint of pride, before he asked, “And what else?”

“Well, Lady Zara is worried about how her husband has been gone for so long. So  she is organizing her family and a few of the soldiers to accompany her to the forest.” I replied.

“I doubt she is worried about her husband. She must be worried about her authority since men don’t like a woman as their lord.” Redford commented, knowing Zara full well, “Very well. I will pretend to help her a little. That would keep her off my back for some time. Just for long enough until all of this is resolved.”

Huh…

Would you look at that? Great minds do think alike. I didn’t even have to say it.
